The academic spotlight focused on the middle school art program at the most recent Tyrone Area School Board meeting.
Two students were honored during the presentation. Art teacher Colleen Ferrari explained to the board and others in attendance the differences in the program between the seventh and eighth grade. She indicated the eighth grade students have a little more time to work on a project. They develop their skills and have more time to research artists.
Ferrari referred to seventh graders Amy Lewis and eighth grader Amber Stonebraker as two remarkable students.
“It amazes me that when I look at their artwork I’m looking at the work of seventh and eighth graders,” Ferrari commented during her presentation.
She described Lewis as a gifted artist with self discipline and confidence that can be seen in her work. Ferrari also spoke of Amy’s quiet and determined demeanor having a positive effect on those around her. The middle school art teacher described her pupil as someone who works to the highest potential.
Ferrari also highlighted the accomplishments of Stonebraker. She said Amber has a maturity beyond the eighth grade level.
“I knew even last year she’d be a great artist,” exclaimed the teacher in talking about Stonebraker.
The two girls also had a chance to address the school board. Each described a particular piece of art that was on display in the meeting room. The girls also received certificates for their efforts during the Tuesday night presentation.
