The Tyrone Area YMCA is bustling with activity at the start of the holiday season.
To begin, the annual YMCA Indian River fruit sale continues until December 1. Delivery is scheduled to occur on the week of December 15th through the 19th.
Leidig’s Farm from Warriors Mark will be supplying fresh citrus fruits such as pink grapefruits, tangelos, navel oranges and apples from the Indian River area of Florida to those interested in placing an order.
In sports, the third and fourth grade basketball league registration deadline was Friday, November 7 at noon. The draft day was Sunday, November 9, and practices began November 10. The regular season is scheduled to begin November 29.
Also, the 18 and older co-ed adult basketball league, which was formerly the 25 and over adult league, is now open for registration. The deadline is December 12, with the regular season scheduled to begin soon after.
Even though the team continues to grow, coach Tom Getz is still looking for more participants for the competitive YMCA swim team.
This is an age group competitive swim team program with team members competing in dual meets, league championships, and challenging district, state and national qualifying times. Team members will enhance their competitive skills on each of the four strokes while building endurance.
There is an array of winter programs at the Tyrone Area YMCA including dance classes, Karate instruction, gymnastics classes and team, youth strength training, swimming lessons, Yoga, water aerobics, active older adult exercise program and women on weights, among many others.
A youth dance is also scheduled in celebration of Thanksgiving on November 21 and will be held in the gymnasium of the YMCA.
Anyone who is interested in learning more about the programs and events at the Tyrone Area YMCA can call 684-2740 during regular business hours.
