The Tyrone Area School Board reviewed the latest plans for the Middle School/High School renovation project at its work session earlier this week. Dwight Knouse of the Large architectural firm presented a schematic design for the project to the board.
“Knouse reviewed the plan justification, Part A of the Plan Con which is necessary,” Superintendent Dr. William N. Miller told The Daily Herald.
That plan must be submitted to the Department of Education in Harrisburg once it’s approved by The Tyrone Area School District. That matter is expected to be brought before the board at the next regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday night.
The plans include a breakdown of the renovations to the existing area which is minimal. The district is now looking at an expansion of the project. According to Dr. Miller, the existing building is 221,845 square feet, the new addition would be 59,000 square feet. The increase will be about 25 percent, bringing the building to around 280,000 square feet. Miller said, “the board was responsive and a discussion ensued about the project.”
The expanded facility would include a number of classrooms plus science and computer rooms. The issue of a fitness center was discussed along with the potential doubling of size to accommodate a grant that would be for workout equipment. The grant would come from the National Fitness Foundation according to Superintendent Miller.
The regular meeting of the Tyrone Area School Board will be held on Tuesday at 7 P.M.
