Under the direction of Director Kris Laird, the Tyrone Golden Eagle Marching Band went to IUP’s Miller Stadium as the top seed of Group II.
With a loud throng of fans and parents behind them, the band took to the field and made it their own, coming away with the “Best Drum Major” and “High Music” specialty awards on its way to the championship.
Its score of 89.3 easily out-distanced second place DuBois (88.5) and third place St. Marys (87.3). Johnstown and Elk County Catholic rounded out the group with 84.9 and 84.65 scores respectively.
“This was one of our goals we set for ourselves back in August,” said an understandably happy Laird. “In winning the championship, we also fulfilled another goal, which was to get to the ACCs.”
The win sends the Tyrone band on to the Atlantic Coast Championships next Sunday evening at Lackawanna County Stadium.
