The Tyrone School District conducted its general business at the monthly meeting on Tuesday night.
The board introduced for first reading 17 new policies. Many are needed to fulfill requirements of the No Child Left Behind program.
The policies include everything from a policy concerning migrant students, to homeless students, to curriculum review by parents and students, to the school district report card. These policies are available for reading at the district administrative offices during regular business hours.
The board took action on the following:
• approved a leave of absence for Krista Getz, grade four teacher from November 20 until January 2;
• accepted the resignations of Kathleen Close as elementary Title I reading specialist and Merle Woomer as elementary second shift custodian;
• approved Tim Snider as a middle-high school volunteer softball coach;
• elected Michelle Reider as a full-time Title I paraprofessional at a salary of $6.66 per hour, five days per week and six hours per day;
• elected Patricia Krajacic as full-time special education paraprofessional at a salary of $6.66 per hour, five days per week and six hours per day;
• elected Bonnie Gordon as elementary learning support paraprofessional at a salary of $6.66 per hour, five days per week and six hours per day;
• elected John Ruby as a grade 12 student to participate in the school to work program. He will be assigned to the elementary custodial staff five days per week, two hours per day at a hourly rate of $5.15;
• elected Barry Herd as a part-time security guard at a rate of $8 hourly, two days per week (Saturday and Sunday) and eight hours per day;
• increased the pay rate of district security guard Paul Cowher from $8.50 hourly to $10 hourly and increase in holidays identical to the custodians;
• elected Robin Kramer as legion essay advisor at a salary of $466.67 and no benefits;
• elected Rebecca Golomb as elementary health assistant. It is a level two position with 190 contract days, five days per week and 6.5 hours per day at a hourly rate of $10.02;
• approved the administrative transfer of full-day kindergarten teacher Melissa Russell to Title I reading specialist with no change in salary or benefits.
The district also voted to approve Child Evangelism Fellowship of Blair County to offer released-time Christian education to interested elementary students for the 2003-04 school year. The program is offered Thursday from 1:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. at the Church of the Good Shepherd.
The board concluded the evening by approving the bids for winter and spring sports equipment in a total amount of $10,872.50 and accepted the low bid for district waste to Burgmeier’s Hauling at a rate of $980 monthly and unscheduled extra pick-ups at $5 per cubic yard a 30 cubic yard roll-off container for bulk clean up at $155 per pull and $52 per ton.
