Saturday night sure was a good evening for the Tyrone Golden Eagle marching band.
That’s because the group took top honors in the Group II competition at the 7th Annual Blue Devil Marching Extravaganza.
All told, 11 school marching bands performed at Memorial Stadium in Bellwood on Saturday evening. The Blue Devil Marching band also performed, but weren’t eligible for awards because it was the hosting school
Competing against Indian Valley and DuBois in Group II, Tyrone came out on top with a score of 75.70, just .20 points ahead of DuBois (75.50). Indian Valley scored 69.75.
The band also came away with the award for High Music Performance.
This coming weekend, the Tyrone band hosts its own competition at Gray-Vets memorial Field. The name of the competition is “Music in the Valley.”
Scheduled to compete are bands from Huntingdon, Conemaugh Township, Bellwood, St. Mary’s, Elk Co. Catholic, DuBois and Juniata Valley. There will also be an exhibition performance by the Keystone Regiment Drum and Bugle Corp of Altoona.
The Golden Eagle marching band will also perform, but like Bellwood last weekend, will not be eligible to win awards.
The gates will open at 5:30 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $5.
