The Blair County Historical Society is seeking nominations for its third annual preservation awards.
The Society will be presenting awards to individuals and organizations that have achieved excellence in preserving and promoting the history and heritage of Blair County. Awards will be presented in two categories: Excellence in Historic Preservation and Excellence in Preservation of County History or Heritage.
Those who qualify for the award in Excellence in Historic Preservation are individuals or organizations who have done an outstanding job in preserving and/or restoring a structure of historical significance in Blair County. This includes but is not limited to achievement in architectural design, home or office improvement, adaptive reuse of an historic property, aiding in the development of an historic site, landscaping or interior furnishings and decoration.
Those who qualify for the award in Excellence in Preservation of County History or Heritage are individuals or organizations who have excelled in keeping the heritage of Blair County viable.
This includes but is not limited to projects involving education, special programs, maintaining records, scrapbooks, drama, art, music, photography, oral history, folklore and books or publications.
Nominations for the award may be made by those involved or by a third party. Entry forms may be downloaded from the Society’s web-site (www.blaircohistory.org) or obtained at Baker Mansion on Tuesdays and Friday between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays between 1 and 4:30 p.m.
Deadline for entries is 4 p.m. on Tuesday, September 30. At least one award will be presented in each category.
Winners will be honored at the Historical Society’s Annual Dinner on November 16.
