Fourteen artists in and around Blair and Cambria counties will open their studios to visitors on the weekend of September 20 and 21.
For two days, art lovers will have the opportunity to visit art studios, meet the artists, see their work and talk to them. Studios are at convenient driving distance from each other. A group show of all the artists in the tour will be on display for the month of September at the Blair County Art Foundation at 1212 Twelfth Ave., Altoona. The contact number is 949-2787.
Tour guide brochures will be available at the Bedford Arts Council, Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art, The Altoona Library, Tyrone Library, The Altoona YMCA, Tyrone Area YMCA, and at Joybeans Coffee Shop in Tyrone. Also a copy can be sent by mail by calling Sue Severson at 940-6478.
Yong-Sook Kim-Lambert is one of the 14 artists who will open their house studios this weekend. A native of South Korea, she now lives in Tyrone and teaches art at the Grier School. She has exhibited throughout the United States and Canada and received several awards, such as the Artist’s Magazine Award from the American Watercolor Society.
Working with mixed-media on paper, oil, and watercolor, she creates emotional neoexpressionist paintings, where she combines figurative and abstract elements. She is a signature member of the Pennsylvania Watercolor Society, Kentucky Watercolor Society and Canadian Watercolor Society.
Currently, one of her paintings, for which she was awarded an Honorable Mention, is on show at the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art in Altoona until October 30. So far this year, she has had paintings selected at several national and international juried shows, such as the Baltimore Watercolor Society, San Diego Watercolor Society, Pennsylvania Watercolor Society, Kentucky Watercolor Society, and the Canadian Watercolor Society. She is represented by the Gallery Parchemine in Montreal, Canada.
This past summer she also gave an intensive one-week art workshop at the Standing Stone Art League in Huntingdon. This workshop was supported by the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts. In addition, she gave a art workshop in Canada, where she was among 11 art instructors invited from across the United States and Canada.
