Parents of students in the Bellwood-Antis School District can visit the Blue Devil campus on Tuesday, Sept. 16 for the annual Open House.
The event is scheduled from 5-7 p.m. at Myers Elementary, and the middle and high schools. There, parents have the opportunity to converse with their students’ teachers, discuss the upcoming school year and find out what is expected of their children in the classroom.
“It’s a great event that we hope is well attended,” said superintendent Brian Toth.
Following the open house, personnel from Windber Medical Clinic, the organization that will be conducting random drug testing at Bellwood-Antis this academic year, will be on hand to answer questions about how the testing procedure works. District officials will also be available to answer questions concerning the school’s drug testing policy.
“We’ll be doing our first testing under the policy this month,” said high school principal Mike Sakash, noting that he would not reveal the exact date of the test.
In addition, another informational session will be held after the drug testing session concerning testing in the curriculum. Here, district officials will give parents information on what is provided in the curriculum, how the district administers it and will answer questions.
In other school board business, the leaders learned that Homecoming ceremonies will occur on Sept. 16 during half-time of the Blue Devils, Mount Union matchup.
Those nominated by the student body for homecoming queen include Liz Walker, Johanna Seminaria, Katie Cherry, Becky Snyder and Morgan Shoop.
