Although last week’s meeting of the Bellwood Borough Council was routine, police protection for the community was improved as council members agreed to hire two more part-time police officers.
Joshua Franks of Coalport and Rodney Estep of Duncansville were given the OK by community leaders to start patrolling the community.
Currently, Bellwood Borough employs two full-time officers, including Chief of Police Paul E. Pfahler, and seven part-time officers.
In other business, council:
• learned plans are continuing to establish a new metal building on North First Street. Currently, a dilapidated building, owned by the borough, sits on the property. Council members feel this building is not safe. A new building would house borough equipment.
