“It’s like one big happy family.”
Those were the words used by Justin Meyer, public relations’ director for Michael DelGrosso’s campaign for the 9th Congressional district, to describe how the candidate’s reception has been in Northern Blair County.
“The reception in this area has been overwhelming,” said Meyer. “People around here feel like they know him. It’s great to see this kind of response here in his own backyard.”
Recently, DelGrosso found himself ahead of schedule in a goal to knock on 10,000 of his possible constituents’ doors when he greeted his 4,000th person in Huntingdon County.
“We’re really excited about that,” said Meyer. “We’re trying to get out and shake as many hands and hear as many concerns as we can. As fall comes up, we’re going to get into the indoor places that we haven’t been to yet. We’re listening.”
Meyer said during these door-to-door visits, DelGrosso sometime spends up to 10 or 15 minutes with the people, whether that be just chatting about the weather or listening to concerns.
“We really enjoy it,” he said.
According to Meyer, people are really interested in the hometown man’s campaign, as evidenced by his recent appearance on a television show.
“We get over 100 calls a day at our offices,” said Meyer. “But the other day’s television appearance was just incredible.”
For the first time in history of his cable access television program, John D’Andrea had more telephone calls than airtime.
A live appearance yesterday morning by the candidate generated a record number of phone calls to the “We the People” television program hosted by D’Andrea.
Callers to the program opened discussion on topics such as healthcare, the United States’ presence in Iraq, jobs, the economy and DelGrosso’s qualifications. D’Andrea was overwhelmed by the response.
“The phones were busy for the entire hour and continued to ring even after the program concluded,” said D’Andrea. “This was the most popular show ever, it’s clear the people are behind Michael DelGrosso.”
DelGrosso was questioned by callers about his military career and why he felt his education and work experience would be useful in Congress. DelGrosso spoke of his experience on the factory floors of Detroit and his work as a consultant to the Federal Government in Washington.
“There is the legislator role and the leadership role and I think we are light on leadership right now,” said DelGrosso. “I am a problem solver, that is what I do.”
DelGrosso has been actively campaigning door-to-door throughout the 9th District. He announced yesterday morning that he knocked on his 4,000th door this week while campaigning in Huntingdon County.
Today’s program was recorded and will be re-played on Charter Communications Cable Channel 14. The program will re-air on Friday at 7 p.m., Monday at 10 a.m., Thursday at 10 a.m., Aug. 29 at 7 p.m. and on Labor Day at 10 a.m.
