Make no mistakes about it, Boy Scout Troop 300 of Tyrone sure knows scouting.
For the fourth consecutive year, the troop received “Honor Troop” statues at Camp Seph Mack near Indiana. Joining Troop 300 were scouts from Troop 103 in Bald Eagle and Troop 341 in Altoona.
The event was held June 22 through June 28.
According to Troop 300 Scoutmaster Pete Kreckel, the “Honor Troop” status was awarded because the boys did the necessary service projects. The group also did the Antelope Run through camp on Tuesday and Thursday.
Scouts Chris Bradigan and Zack Yeaton placed second and third in the Ironman competition. This competition involved swimming 1/4 of a mile, running a mile and paddling a canoe one mile.
The Troop was visited by parents on Wednesday, along with St. Matthew’s pastor, Father Orr.
Yeaton, Philip Kreckel and Pete Kreckel spent the week in the aquatics area to earn the BSA Lifeguard. This allows both troops to participate in water activities, such as swimming and canoeing on the troop level.
Scouts Jeff Glace and Caleb Dillon completed merit badges to fulfill requirements for Life Scout.
Scouts Chris Kirkpatrick, Tyler Poorman and Wes Young advanced to first class and also completed a few Eagle Scout-required merit badges.
C.J. Kowalski from Troop 341 earned three required merit badges.
New scouts who attended camp for their first year finished the Sprint Troop, which focuses on scout skill development. Scouts Dan Isenberg, Dan Kilgus, Pierce Cardamone, Logan Harper, Will Zimmerman, along with Kowalski, completed Sprint Troop. Each earned three merit badges and advanced to Tenderfoot rank.
“All totaled, this group of hard-working scouts earned more than 60 merit badges,” said Scoutmaster Kreckel, “enough requirements for 12 rank advancements, three BSA lifeguards, and Honor Troop.
Leaders Mark SR Raffetto., Todd Cardamone, Tim Kirkpatrick, Jeff Glace Sr. and Peter Kreckel provided the adult leadership for this outstanding week at Camp Seph Mack.
