A 31-year-old Tipton man was killed after the motorcycle he was operating struck a downed utility line in Blandburg Sunday.
Police report 31-year-old Gerald Whitaker was operating a Harley-Davidson motorcycle on Skyline Drive in Reade Township when the accident took place.
Police said the incident occurred moments after an earlier accident and was a direct result of the first crash.
According to reports, Linda Glasgow of Fallentimber crashed into a utility pole after losing control of her sport utility vehicle causing the cable line to fall. Moment later, Whitaker struck the cable line and he and his passenger, 23-year-old Andrea Turner of Blandburg, were thrown from the bike.
Cambria County Deputy Coroner Jim Zangalia pronounced both Whitaker and Turner dead at the scene at around 3:30 a.m. Both deaths were caused by trauma to the head and neck area.
Glasgow suffered moderate injuries and was transported to Altoona Hospital for treatment.
After the motorcycle accident, a third mishap occurred when a vehicle driven by Patrick Cavanaugh of Flinton crashed into the cable, causing the vehicle to flip onto its side. He was not injured.
