Chuck Banas, public relations director of the Tyrone-Snyder Public Library, announced yesterday that tickets are now available for the July 26 benefit concert.
“These tickets will go fast just as they did last year,” said Banas. “My advice, get yours early.”
Tickets cost $30 each and all proceeds will be used for the library’s New Building Fund.
To date. there have been 250 tickets sold for the show.
For nearly a year, library board members have been combing the community seeking donations for the project. To date, Banas said the library has raised about $405,000 of the $650,000 needed.
The concert will feature legendary rockers The Marcels; Vanessa Campagna, who some may recognize as the 10-year-old runner up from this season of NBC’s Star Search television program; vocalist Mayra Acosta, a former Miss Pennsylvania; and I’Jasnem.
Tickets are available at a number of different outlets in both Tyrone and Altoona. This includes the Tyrone-Snyder Public Library, Med-Center Pharmacy, Joybeans, Levine’s Shoefly, Kopp Drug, Healthy Alternatives, Bressler’s Food Market and Sports, the Altoona Library and at Eagle video at Giant Eagle in Altoona. Also, Banas said tickets can also be purchased from any Tyrone-Snyder Public Library Board of Directors member.
The concert is scheduled to begin promptly at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the Tyrone Area High School Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.
Banas said there is something very interesting that will happen that night – so interesting that the audience will become part of music history. Banas is being tight-lipped about the special feature, and plans to remain that way.
“Currently, it’s top secret,” said Banas in an earlier interview with The Daily Herald, “but it’s probably a once in a lifetime opportunity for ticket holders. That’s why it’s so important to get your ticket early.”
Although the library’s board of directors could take out a low-interest loan to cover the remaining costs of the new building, which is located at the corner of Pennsylvania Avenue and West Tenth Street in Tyrone, Banas said the best thing that could happen is if they didn’t go that route.
“It would be great to pay it off in it’s entirety,” said Banas. “That’s an important goal of ours.”
Anyone wishing to make a tax-free donation to the project can drop the donation off at either the library on Logan Avenue or at Healthy Alternatives in Bald Eagle.
Currently, construction plans move forward on the project as contractor Jeff Long and his crew prepares for phase three, which includes the pouring of concrete floors and other inside additions. Banas said the pouring of the concrete should occur today.
The project is still on track for a late September or early October opening.
As construction plans begin to heat back up, so do the plans for the interior workings. Banas said the building committee has already met with several manufacturers of shelving and furniture and expect t make a recommendation to the board for this important material by August.
