The students of Tyrone Area High School have been preparing all school year for this Sunday’s concert titled, “A Celebration,” a special Mother’s Day Concert, to be held in the high school auditorium.
Features of the concert include the celebration of life, God, country, Broadway, friends and mothers.
The choirs are to present a variety of music and entertainment to please all ages. Featured styles of music include: Broadway, traditional spirituals, Latin, music of the 70’s, sacred and secular.
There will also be a special salute to mothers with a slide show of the Class of 2003 members.
The always entertaining POPS Extension Show Choir will perform professionally choreographed selections for the crowd. Also, a finale which consists of a medley of most of the songs recently presented in the spring musical “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” will be highlighted by cast members. The concert choir has also prepared many musical numbers sure to delight members of the audience.
Scheduled is also a salute to the class of 2003 and the presentation of the three choral awards for excellence in choral music which include: the Lisa Lehman Outstanding Vocalist Award; TAHS Most Valuable Choir Member Award and the Kristy Taylor Award for Excellence and Spirit.
There will be many soloists performing throughout the concert, and the featured number is “Please Remember Me,” originally performed by Lee Ann Rimes, by senior, Jenn Verbickas.
Tyrone teacher Catherine Young is the musical director for the concert; Leah Dombrosky is the accompanist; Tara Penick is the choreographer; Jordan Campbell and Rob Rich are the percussion performers; Erika Latchford is the bassist; Tim Walk is running the lighting; Gib Lucas is running the sound and Mary Ann Volders was responsible for the programs.
Young would like to acknowledge the TASD board of education, administration, faculty and staff for all of their support. Also she would like to acknowledge the TASD music department: Laura Harris, Myra Hess, Tom Verzilla and Kris Laird.
The Sunday, May 11 concert begins at 2 p.m. at the high school auditorium. Tickets are $3 for adults and $2 for students and senior citizens.
