Officials at Tyrone Hospital announced the hospital has received a bequest in the amount of $30,000 from the estate of the late Helen H. Morrison of Tyrone.
Helen Morrison was a life long resident of Tyrone. She was married to the late James F. (Ferd) Morrison who died in 1982. Mrs. Morrison worked for many years as an executive secretary to the president of the Wilson Chemical Company. Mrs. Morrison was an only child and the Morrisons had no children. Those who knew Mrs. Morrison remember her as a pleasant, quiet and rather private person who was very fond of her pet dog.
Thomas Bartlett, chief executive officer at Tyrone Hospital, said Mrs. Morrison’s gift will benefit the entire community now and in the future. Twenty-five thousand dollars will be used to help pay for the new technically advanced hi-speed CT scanner the hospital purchased earlier this year. Mr. Bartlett said $5,000 has been allocated to the Tyrone Hospital Endowment Fund to benefit the hospital and community in the future.
“It was a generous bequest back in 1931 that started the wheels in motion to construct the Tyrone Hospital,” said Bartlett. “Mrs. Morrison has continued that giving tradition. Her legacy is providing for her friends and neighbors by helping to insure their healthcare needs are met now and in the future. I think she would be pleased to see the way we have put her gift to use to benefit the people in her hometown.” said Bartlett.
“We are thrilled that Helen Morrison has provided for the future of the hospital by adding to the Tyrone Hospital Endowment Fund,” said Jodi Cesnna, executive director of the Blair County Community Endowment. “This $5,000 gift will help to ensure the legacy of Tyrone Hospital and healthcare for the Tyrone area.”
The executor of Mrs. Morrison’s estate reported the hospital will receive an additional $11,625.00 when funds from the Morrison estate are fully disbursed.
