Here it is a Tuesday and the recliner is warmed up. Too bad it isn’t in the office.
We have had a lot of response so far to our Meet the Candidates forums that we have scheduled, but the response I am surprised in is the lack of questions sent in from the public.
These are chances for you to learn about the candidates that will govern our area for the next few years. Your chance to ask what you want to know about them, their beliefs and their vision for their office.
Our first Meet the Candidates night is tomorrow at the Tyrone Elementary Large Group Instruction room.
The forum will focus on Tyrone School Board, Tyrone Borough Council, Snyder Township Board of Supervisors and District Justice.
Thus far school board candidates Lee Stover, Becky Emenhiser, Luther Laird, Pete Dutrow and Ray Detwiler have accepted invitations to attend. Rev. Norman Huff is unable to attend because he is in the Bellwood-Antis School Play.
Tyrone Borough Council candidates John Thomas, Bill Fink and Dan Meckes will be in attendance. Incumbants Jim Beckwith, Sharon Dannaway, Jennifer Bryan and J.R. Watson were unable to attend due to other commitments.
Snyder Township Supervisor candidates Charles Diehl and Joy Bickle will be represented at the forum. Incumbant Ray Rodgers is unable to attend.
Both District Justice candidates Fred Miller and Suzanne Bigelow-Cherry will be on hand for the evening.
An evening of learning about the people who want to represent you is a good thing. You should make an informed decision when you go to the polls on May 20. You should put the person you believe that will do the best to make your community or school system a better place.
I look forward to seeing you there tomorrow night at 7 p.m.
I want to thank G. Kerry Webster for his opinion that he shared with everyone on Saturday. There are many times that I have defended our paper and what we do, but usually it is on a one on one basis. We work hard to bring you the news of our community. We work hard to keep you informed when there is someone who excells. What is buried on page 12 of the other paper, is front page news to us. We’re proud of the work that we do and I am thankful that a lot of people are noticing.
Time to get off the soap box. I hope to see you at one of the three Meet the Candidates forums we are presenting and we’ll talk later.
