At the pageant, the contestants will be introduced, asked an impromptu question and required to present either a three to five minute speech or skit. Also introduced will be the 2003-04 dairy maids, dairy misses, future dairy princesses and their future farmer escorts. The dairy maids will also be asked an impromptu question on stage.
The master of ceremonies for the evening will be TV 10 morning and noon news anchor Amy Merkel Sylvester.
The first Dairy Princess pageant was held in 1964 in conjunction with the Morrison Cove Dairy Show in August. Contestants from Blair, Bedford and Huntingdon counties could participate. Later, it was changed to contestants from Blair County only.
Thirty-two young ladies have since represented the dairy industry as dairy princess. In 1990, Kristin (Metzker) Russell was selected as the county’s first state dairy princess.
The organizer would look to invite all previous dairy princesses and alternates to join in the selection of the 2003-04 Blair County Dairy Princess.
All are welcome to attend the pageant only.
