The Tyrone Area School District Renaissance Education Foundation announced a group of stars for the third marking period of the 2002-2003 school year. Tyrone Area teachers nominated fourteen students for recognition due to their outstanding academic achievement, positive attitude or overall improvements.
Sixth grader Richard Lewis was chosen by Mrs. Chamberlain, Mrs. Conrad and Mr. Stoner. Richard is a hard working student who takes pride in completing his assignments in an accurate and neat manner. Equally important, however, is Richard’s willingness to help anyone and to make all of his peers feel welcomed and liked. He exhibits all the qualities of good citizenship. Another sixth grader, John Shaffer, was nominated by Mr. Bouslough, Mr. Friday, and Mrs. Myers. John is a very conscientious student who always tries his best. He shows great respect toward others and is willing to “lend a helping hand” whenever possible.
Two seventh graders were selected by the seventh grade team of teachers. Emily Waite has proven herself to be a consistently outstanding student all year. She is conscientious, clarifies instructions and expectations, participates in class discussions, and always produces quality work. Emily truly exemplifies the kind of student who excels by having a strong work ethic. Merle Woomer is a very conscientious, hard working student who gives one-hundred percent in everything he does. He is pleasant, well-behaved and eager to learn. His hard work and determination enables Merle to be successful in his classes.
Sarah Cardamone and Andrew Scott were the eighth graders chosen this marking period. Sarah was described by her science teacher, Mrs. Cannistraci, as one of the most helpful students she has ever taught. Sarah thinks first of others rather than herself. Whether she is bringing in products for “shoeboxes for soldiers,” assisting to set up an activity, or working with another student, she is always helpful. Eighth grader Andrew Scott was chosen by his reading/study skills teacher, Mrs. Delbaggio. Andrew is a pleasure to have in the classroom. He has a very positive attitude and works very hard. He is conscientious and is willing to put forth extra effort to improve his grade.
Freshman Kairann Isenberg was nominated by her history teacher, Mr. Linder. Kairann can always be counted on to have the answer when others don’t know it. She has much insight for a ninth grader, and she uses it wisely. She was one of the groups from Tyrone that attended history day and took honors with their display on propaganda. Jessica Templeton was chosen by her ninth grade math teacher, Mr. Bloom. In a class of stars, Jessica has shone brilliantly. In the last chapter, she earned an A++ work grade. She learned the material by self-instruction. She is an excellent example to her peers.
Sophomore Jeffrey Bennett was chosen by his health instructor Mrs. Germino. This young man has shown great improvement over the past nine weeks, not only in his work in health occupations, but in his attendance record. He is certainly proof that if you put your mind to it, you can succeed. Kendra Confer was chosen by her tenth grade English teacher Mr. Naylor. Kendra’s positive attitude and work ethic makes her a pleasure to have in class. She works diligently and pays attention intently. Each week Kendra spends nearly an entire class period writing away to climb to the top of the Vocab Club leader board. She is to be admired for her persistence and her desire to be the best.
Jill LaRosa was selected by her eleventh grade English teacher Mr. Everhart. Jill consistently excels in both writing and reading. She sets incredibly high standards for her success and seeks help and criticism regularly to perfect her craft. Junior Beth Nelson was nominated by French teacher Mrs. Smith. Beth is a very conscientious student. She is excited about learning and is very helpful to students who have missed class. Beth is incredibly organized and was in charge of a recent fundraiser. Her classwork and homework reflect excellence. She is a pleasure to have in class.
Senior Lauren Haag was chosen by her senior math teacher, Mrs. McNelis, and senior science teacher Mr. Wilson. Lauren has worked hard all year maintaining her grade in her math course. Even though she is in extra-curricular activities, she always makes sure her work is in on time and makes up any work she misses. She has also worked very hard in Mr. Wilson’s class. She has maintained an A average. Aside from grades, she always has a positive attitude. She enters the room with a “good morning” and leaves with a “have a good day.” Senior Misty Snyder was chosen by her student council advisor Ms. Ieraci. Misty is a hard worker who is willing to participate in anything in which the student council is involved. She takes responsibility for her actions and follows through with projects that she begins. Misty is a very good student and takes her studies very seriously. She has high expectations for herself and constantly works to meet those expectations.
Congratulations to these fourteen Renaissance Stars for the third marking period. The teachers and administration are proud of your accomplishments and thank you for making a positive difference in the Tyrone School District.
