The Tyrone Renaissance Education Foundation announced a group of stars for the first marking period of the 2002-03 school year. Tyrone Area teachers nominated fourteen students for recognition due to their outstanding achievement, positive attitude, or overall improvements.
Tyler Poorman was chosen by Scott Bouslough, Don Friday, and Anna Myers. Tyler is a sixth grader who is constantly smiling and really enjoys school. He is very polite and respectful of adults as well as his peers. He was commended for his hard work in the classroom and for having his work done on time.
“He is a joy to have in the classroom,” said one of Tyler’s teachers.
Wesley Young, sixth grader, has demonstrated an excellent work ethic. He completes his work thoroughly, accurately, and on time. He is a good friend to all students. Wesley was nominated by Robyn Chamberlain, Elaine Conrad, and Steve Stoner.
Shawn Beckwith was nominated by his science teacher, David Loth. Shawn turns in all work on time and in good quality. He is attentive in class and is a good volunteer. Shawn contributes toward a positive atmosphere in his seventh grade classroom.
Wynter Nail, seventh grader, was chosen by Cynthia Johnson. Wynter was commended for completing the Algebra 1/2 material during the summer vacation. She is in the Algebra I math classroom this year. She was praised for her meticulous and accurate calculations. She consistently scores at the top of her class on the math exams.
Johnson stated, “Wynter is well-liked by her peers and serves as an excellent role model, both academically and behaviorally.”
Russell Beck always comes to class with a positive attitude. He asks questions and participates in class. His project for the first nine weeks was outstanding. Russell is a true asset to the eighth grade class. He was selected by Todd Cammarata and Richard Ward.
Elizabeth Tepsic, eighth grader, was chosen by Teresa Myers. Liz was described as hardworking and always willing to go the extra mile. She is curious and always follows directions. She is willing to help her peers and has a positive outlook.
Freshman Tiffany Bradford was chosen by Ms. Renner. Tiffany is a very well-rounded student. Not only is she a hardworking basketball athlete, she places her education as a high priority. She gives maximum effort in all projects and class work.
Trey Brockett was chosen by his ninth grade English instructor, Richard Merryman. Trey was commended for his courtesy with teachers, coaches, and his classmates. He is quiet and reflects a powerful mind always able to apply logical reason to all situations. He is distinguished as a fine role model for his peers.
“Because of his quietness, courtesy, and capability, Trey Robert Brockett is a credit to his family, his school, his team, and his community,” said Merryman.
Two tenth graders were selected as Renaissance Stars. Jessica Ott was chosen by Dan Albright. Jessica was recommended due to her outstanding performance in Chemistry I. She obtained the highest average of all Chemistry students. Sophomore Derrick Soellner was nominated by Todd Cammarata. Derrick’s interest and enthusiasm in class is admirable and infectious. When discussing the elections recently, Derrick’s questions and comments always added greatly to the class discussion. He encourages other students to involve themselves as well. He makes class more interesting and interactive for everyone.
Juniors Katie Chamberlain and Jordan Rhoat were nominated as Renaissance Stars. Ms. Pryor commended Katie for her hard work and dedication to the Eagle Eye Newspaper. “Without her, the layout would not be complete,” said Pryor.
Jordan was described as inspirational, hardworking, and dedicated. He was nominated by Mike McNelis.
Senior Josh Galbraith was selected by Barbara McNelis. Josh was commended for always having his math assignments in on time. He is willing to ask questions and get help if needed.
Jill Hunter is a remarkable Marketing Education student. She brings loyalty and dedication to everything she does. She is an ambassador of Tyrone through her involvement of Cooperative Education at Gardners Candy Corporate Office and also her participation in DECA. Peter Gardella highly recommended Jill as a Renaissance Star.
