Blair County Coroner Patricia Ross said 28-year-old Robert Henry Smith of Casper, Wyo., died as a result of massive blunt force trauma after he fell 80-feet from atop a microwave tower along state Route 453 where Clearfield, Centre and Cambria counties come together.
The incident occurred around 11 a.m. on Thursday.
According to Ross, Smith was working for SCT Communications, which is based in Texas. His company was doing contract work for Alltel when the incident occurred.
Originally, the incident was thought to have occurred in Blair County, but further investigation ruled the incident actually happened in Centre County.
Centre County Coroner Scott Sayers deputized the Blair County Coroner’s staff, which allowed it to continue investigating the case and perform the autopsy. The autopsy was held Thursday in Altoona.
Centre County will be responsible for all costs associated with the case.
