Topics concerning senior-related health were on the docket at a community Health Fair co-sponsored by Epworth Manor and Pathways of Bon-Secours Holy Family Medical Hospital yesterday at Epworth’s new building on Washington Avenue.
According to Epworth staffer Andrea Young, the event gave an opportunity for residents of the Manor and members of the community and interact and discuss health-related issues. It also allowed an opportunity for area vendors and medical services providers to display their wares, offer services and discussed problems and solutions.
“This is our first event and we’re enjoying what we’re seeing so far,” said Young during the first hour of the 120-minute event. “If this is something that’s going to show there’s enough interest, we’re hoping to do more fairs like this one.”
A conference room was lined with booths from some recognizable organizations, including the Alzheimer’s Disease Association and Neighborhood Care Pharmacy. Some stations offered information on stress management, at others, visitors could receive a relaxing message.
“We wanted a good variety of vendors to offer information,” said Young, “and we’re glad to see that the people are taking an interest in each of the booths. These are important issues for these people and any information they can take from this will only be positive.
The most visited booths weren’t really booths at all. In fact, they were tables.
“We have a lot of different, but fun stuff,” said Melissa McHugh CTRS, Pathways representative, as she stood next to Epworth’s Activities Director of Personal Care Barbara McCloskey at the leisure table.
But adjacent lied the refreshment table, which included punch, cookies, snacks, veggies and dip and, again..cookies.
