The Big 8 football matchup tonight between the Tyrone Golden Eagles and Bald Eagle Area Eagles has been postponed until Saturday night at 7 p.m.
Tyrone Athletic Director Tony Yaniello announced the postponement this morning.
“With the projected forecast, it is in the best interest to postpone the game,” said Yaniello. “We’ve been in touch with Accu-Weather and they are projecting rain all day and an inch and a half of rain in one hour this afternoon. Then it is forecasted to rain all evening. It’s in everyone’s best interest to postpone.”
With the trip Bald Eagle Area has to make, safety was a concern.
“We were concerned for the players and fans in making this decision,” said Yaniello. “There are some low spots on Route 220 that can easily flood. The field is already soggy and adding another inch and a half of rain will increase the chance of a player getting injured. Tomorrow is forecast to be a Sunny day. It is in the best interest of the fans and teams to postpone the game.”
The decision was made at 9:30 a.m.
“We made the decision early to make sure everyone was notified,” said Yaniello. “By doing this the fans won’t be inconvienced, the officials won’t have to make two trips. We contacted Bald Eagle Area Athletic Director Doug Dyke and he was in agreement.
Kickoff for this Saturday night special is at 7 p.m.
