The Bellwood-Antis High School marching band will be hosting its sixth annual Blue Devil Marching Extravaganza band competition tonight at Bellwood Memorial Stadium beginning at 7 p.m.
Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the gate. The gates open for the competition at 5 p.m.
There will be eight bands competing from central Pennsylvania along with host Bellwood-Antis and Juniata Valley on as exhibition. The bands will be competing in groups from one to three. Group one being the smallest and group three being the larger bands on display.
Bands competing in Group I include: Lewistown, Conemaugh Township and Central. Group II: Elk County Catholic, Huntingdon and Windber. Group III: Dubois and Tyrone.
Group I performance order: Lewistown will perform at 7:14 p.m. followed by Conemaugh Twp. at 7:28 p.m. and Central at 7:42 p.m. Group II: Elk County Christian begins at 7:56 p.m. followed by Huntingdon at 8:10 p.m. and Windber at 8:24 p.m. Group III: Dubois performs at 8:38 p.m. followed by Tyrone at 8:52 p.m.
Bellwood-Antis Band Director Greg Roberts stated, “We’ll have judges from the National Judges Association there to critique each band. Awards will be handed out for placement in each group, in addition to high marching, high music, high drum major, high color guard, and high percussion.”
Roberts elaborated, “It’s a tournament of bands competition. We are a Chapter 11 school, which comprises of about 11 or 12 bands in the central Pennsylvania area. We have nine bands coming from central Pennsylvania and competing in the three groups.”
The Juniata Valley marching band kicks off the extravaganza at 7 p.m. The Bellwood-Antis marching band will be the last band to play beginning at 9:06 p.m. Drum Major Retreat and Awards will immediately follow the Bellwood-Antis band.
Tickets will also be available at the competition to win a 2002 Polaris 700 HO 4WD four wheeler, being given away by the Bellwood-Antis marching band. Tickets for the November 16th drawing cost $1, and persons need not be present to win.
