The annual Tyrone Community Picnic at Reservoir Park will be held Labor Day, Monday September 2, 2002 from 10 a.m. to until its over, with a day full of entertainment, games, an attendance drawings, 50/50 drawing, along with free parking.
There will be a chicken barbecue from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., sponsored by Rotary Club, with advance tickets on sale at the Tyrone Chamber of Commerce Office or by any Rotary member. The dinners can be picked up at the concession stand.
The Labor Day picnic is sponsored by: Tyrone Borough, Area Businesses and Industries, Tyrone Chamber of Commerce, Area Clubs, Organizations, and Individuals.
Along with the chicken barbecue dinner at the concession stand, the Women’s Club at kitchen Table No. 1 will have a half rack rib dinner and pie sale. Boy Scout Troop 103 will serve a ham barbecue, sloppy joes, hot dogs, funnel cakes, chips, and soda. The Salvation Army will provide coffee and doughnuts.
Independent stands will be hosted by the Shrines Club, who will be serving hot & mild sausage sandwiches, nachos & cheese, lemonade, and ice tea. YMCA gymnastics will hold a bake sale with apple dumplings.
Beginning at 10 a.m., there will be children’s games for all ages at the amphitheater in the park, co-ordinated by the Tyrone YMCA, which include such games as a water balloon toss, flour race, sponge game, cool whip bubble contest, show toss, licorice race, and a watermelon and pie eating contest. The watermelon and pie eating contest will commence at 3 p.m.
There will also be pool games at 1 p.m. for everyone at the community pool which include a cannonball contest, best dive, greased watermelon contest, relay race, and an always exciting money dive.
Also at 1 p.m., there will be prize bingo at Table No. 1 that will be broadcasted by WTRN and organized by the Tyrone Elks.
