The Blair County Dairy Princess Sarah Dell was on hand at the Tyrone YMCA Day passing out dairy promotion bags to children. This was just one of her many promotional appearances she will make this year.
Dell was crowned the new Dairy Princess at the County pageant in May. The alternate is Lydia Dively.
Dell is 16 and a senior at Central High School. She is a member of the FFA and has participated in Public Speaking and she has raised market hogs and capons. Her parents are Leon and Elaine Dell of Martinsburg and she has a younger sister, Julie.
Already Dell has participated in television, radio, school and senior citizen promotions. In July she attended the Dairy Princess seminar. This seminar is attended by all the county princesses and alternates and featured educational workshops and fashion and beauty classes.
Another highlight in July was riding a float in the Morrison Cove Agricultural Parade.
Later this month Dell will be participating in Ag Progress Days.
“All the people you get to meet, ” Dell said is one of the things she enjoys about being the 2002 Blair County Dairy Princess. “You get plenty of attention and it’s pretty exciting.
In September, Dell will be competing for the title of the Pennsylvania Dairy Princess in Harrisburg.
“I’m excited about the competition,” Dell said. “It will be interesting to see all the girls again.”
Her skit for the State Contest will be “What’s Milk Got?”
The State Dairy Princess Pageant will be held September 20-21 in Harrisburg.
Between now and May of 2003, Dell will be kept busy promoting Blair County’s number one industry.
