The amazing sound of a fifty piece big band will fill Reservoir Park on August 4 at 2 p.m. as the Tyrone Arts Council’s Summer Concert Series continues. The Pennsylvania National Guard 28th Infantry Division Band will take over the Reservoir Park amphitheater stage from 2 p.m. to 3:30 as part of this free concert series.
The 28th Infantry Division Band is stationed at the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home. The band members, however, come from as far away as the most western and southern parts of the state in order to perform with this exceptional military band. Comprised of 50 members, the band will present a program including military marches, jazz numbers, stage and big band favorites, and patriotic music. The program in Tyrone is one of only two concerts the band will present in the central Pennsylvania region during this season.
Sargent Maureen T. Kerrigan, Unit Readiness Noncommissioned Officer, commented, “The band members from our area are very excited to have this opportunity to perform for the residents of their home communities. It will be the only outdoor performance the band will be giving in this region and we look forward to seeing many of you in the audience on Sunday.”
The concert time has been changed to 2 p.m., as opposed to the normal 6 p.m. time, in order to accommodate the travel schedule of those band members who live a distance away. As with all concerts in the series, audience members should bring a chair or blanket for seating and the concert is free of charge. In the event of rain the performance will be held in St. Matthew Hall, Cameron Avenue and 12th Street, Tyrone. This program is supported by the PA Council on the Arts, a state agency, the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency, and Tyrone Borough.
