Tyrone Medical Associates is pleased to welcome Eric J. Widmaier, M.D., Family Practice physician, to its medical staff.
Dr. Widmaier completed his undergraduate studies at Ursinus College in Collegeville, where he graduated sum ma cum laude. He obtained his medical degree from the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine in Hershey. He completed a residency in family practice at York Hospital in York.
He served as medical care provider for the homeless at Bethesda Mission in Harrisburg. While in York, he organized and initiated medical care for the homeless and uninsured at the Helping Hands for the Homeless Community Center. He also served as Sports Medicine Coordinator for seven local school districts in York County.
While at Penn State, Dr. Widmaier assisted with numerous research studies involving dermatology, cardiac conditioning and skeletal muscle physiology. Several of Dr. Widmaier’s research studies on dermatology and sports medicine topics have been published in professional medical publications including the Journal of Applied Physiology and Focus. He was also a featured speaker at an annual meeting of the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine.
Dr. Widmaier’s is certified in basic cardiac life support, advanced cardiac life support, pediatric advanced life support, and neonatal advanced life support. His special clinical interests include rural and underserved medicine, sports medicine, occupational medicine, acute care, dermatology, and teaching residents and medical students.
He is the recipient of several honors and wards including the “Master Photographer” for dermatology case studies at York Hospital, Beta Beta Beta Biological Honors Society and the Club and Key Men’s Scholar Athlete Society at Ursinus College.
Dr. Widmaier is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Medical Association, Blair County Medical Society, Pennsylvania Medical Society, and the North American AgroMedicine Consortium.
On a personal note, Dr. Widmaier and his wife Lisa reside in Port Matilda. They have numerous friends and relatives in the Central Pennsylvania region. Dr. Widmaier’s recreational interests include hunting, fishing, fitness, travel, and spending time with his wife and family. He also plays guitar and enjoys bluegrass music. His wife Lisa is a teacher and will join the Tyrone Area Elementary School as a second grade teacher beginning September, 2002.
