The Tyrone-Snyder Public Library Board of Directors recently conducted their monthly meeting. The Board of Directors, according to Publicity Chairman Chuck Banas, took the following actions.
The board had an hour-long presentation from Terry Varner of Wienken & Associates of State College. This is the investment company that handles the library’s investment portfolio. The major point of the discussion revolved around the current Bear market and how the Library Board of Directors should conduct their investments, This included a discussion on the possibilities of repositioning some of the funds currently vested.
At the conclusion of the presentation and discussion it was agreed that any reposition of funds was at least one year away and that any monies budgeted from income should be derived from the money market fund. The board also decided to have monthly meetings with Mr. Vamer and Library Board President Fred Thomas. Mr. Thomas will then repott back to the board each month.
In other action, the board contracted the services of Pelligrini Engineers to complete the flood plain elevation survey in the amount of $350.
“This flood plain survey must be in place for the board to be able to approach insurance carriers for proposals for flood insurance on the new library. This report should be completed by the August Board of Directors meeting”, stated Banas.
During the Librarians Report the board was informed that there were 96 children enrolled in the Summer Reading Program, A total of 63 children had attended the last program, On July 3, a transformer at the rear of the library blew out.
“This resulted in the loss of the server for the computer system for one week,” stated Banas. “This also damaged the printer and we are still having some residual problems.” The library is working with Verizon to correct all ofthe problems. The board also learned that Citizens Fire Company was donating the use of their hall for the library’s summer reading program.
“The next two major items of discussion were concerning the new library construction and the New Library Fund Drive,” according to Banas. Developer and builder Jeff Long is now ready to put the floor in place as well as the roof. The Board expressed concern that an architect should look at the floor plans for final approval.
“The Board decided to meet on Monday July 22 with an architect for final review of the floor plans,” said Banas. “After all the final decisions are in place it is most likely that a special meeting of the Board of Directors will be held in order to approve the final draft.”
The Board decided that the New Building Fund Drive would be activated in phases. The first phase will begin immediately as contacts will be made on a personal one to one basis. This will be accomplished through the efforts of the Board of Directors as well as a volunteer group of community leaders. Those who will be contacted will be both individuals and corporations.
All individuals or corporations who pledge $1,000 or more, will have their names on a plaque in the new library. “This pledge may be over a period of three years”, added Banas.
“In August we are planning a mailing ofbrochures to the general community. This brochure will explain the campaign and that the amounts pledged may be contribute over a three year period,” he said.
The Board also has several other fund raising events that are in the works. “The events will be announced on an individual basis,” concluded Banas.
“This is a major undertaking for both the communities of Snyder Township and Tyrone Borough. This new library will be a learning, recreational and meeting place for many years to come. In order to put the best possible library into reality we will need the help of many members of the two communities. We ask that when you are contacted that you help in any way that is possible to help make this dream a reality,” said Banas.
The next Library Board of Directors meeting will be held on Tuesday, August 20, at the library and is open to the public. The board meetings begin at 7 p.m.
