Tyrone Hospital is pleased to announce the addition of Omar Shawarby, M.D., FACS, board certified general surgeon to the hospital’s medical staff. Dr. Shawarby provides general, vascular, and thoracic surgery services.
Dr. Shawarby is a graduate of the AZHAR University Hospital Medical School in Cairo, Egypt. He completed a residency in cardiothoracic and vascular surgery at AZHAR University Hospital and the National Heart and Lung Institute in Cairo. He completed a cardiovascular research fellowship at Deborah Heart & Lung Institute in Browns Mils, New Jersey. He also completed a general surgery residency at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown, Pennsylvania where he served as Chief General Surgery resident.
In addition to a newly established practice in Tyrone, Dr. Shawarby also practices at Miners Medical Center where he has served as Chief of Surgery. He also operates at Altoona Regional Health System and Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center.
Dr. Shawarby is certified in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS).
During his career, Dr. Shawarby has authored and co-authored a variety of articles which were presented at various national meetings and appeared in a variety of professional periodicals and organizations including AZHAR University Press, Egyptian Heart Journal, ASAIO Journal, annual meeting of the American College of Angiology, American College of Cardiology Annual Scientific Session, AALAS annual meeting, Society for Biomaterials Symposium, Southwestern Pennsylvania Chapter of the American College of Surgeons., and the Richard P. Zimmerman, M.D. Memorial Lectureship Symposium.
His professional affiliations include the American College of Surgeons, Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons, Pennsylvania Medical Society, Cambria County Medical Society, National Republican Congressional Committee Honorary Chairman, Physician’s Advisory Board.
Dr. Shawarby’s Tyrone practice is located at 3 Hospital Drive on the campus of Tyrone Hospital.
