The undefeated Tyrone Junior High Ninth Grade football team (5-0) notched their third shutout of the season against Clearfield on Thursday evening at Gray-Vets Memorial Field.
Christian Getz scored early to give the Little Eagles a lead, and the defense controlled the rest of the contest.
Tyrone recovered four Bison fumbles, with Marcus Wagner, Jay Miller, Nick Romano and Shaquille Williams, each grabbing one. Charles Wilson Adams and Christian Getz each intercepted a Clearfield pass, and Willie Miller and Ryan Isenberg each recorded a quarterback sack. Adams returned his pick for 60 yards to take the Eagles out of trouble. Tyrone also had a pair of tackles behind the line of scrimmage for losses.
Getz, who ran for 92 yards on just seven carries, tallied the only points in the first three quarters on a 30-yard scamper in the first quarter.
Caleb Snyder, who ended up with 86 yards on 15 carries, gave Tyrone some breathing room with a pair of four-yard touchdowns in the fourth quarter.
“Obviously, I am very proud of these guys,” said Tyrone coach Dan Plummer. “Our defense has been phenomenal. We stopped them with an interception with 5:52 left in the game to seal their fate, that was crucial. They have been working hard in practice and keep their focus. They are responding well. We are 5-0 now, hopefully we will take that momentum into next week and keep going strong.”
Tyrone will travel to Wingate on Thursday to play the Bald Eagle Area junior high, with the 7th/8th grade game starting at 4:30 p.m. and the ninth grade game following at 6 p.m.
