The Tyrone girls tennis team won the first three singles matches and added both doubles to defeat Huntingdon 5-2 at the Clay Avenue courts on Tuesday.
Laura Thompson, Elena Myers and Emily Tompkins gave the Lady Eagles a big start and then after Huntingdon came back with wins at the No. 4 and 5 singles, Tyrone posted both doubles matches in the win column to insure their second victory of the season,
Amy Lewis and Thompson bested Jennifer Leitzel and Hillary Zanlo in the No. 1 doubles match, and Myers and Elsita Balvanera knocked off Lauren Schmeck and Katlyn Gibboney in the No. 2 doubles match.
“As the scores score, this was a well-played match by the girls from both teams. Thompson, Myers, and Tompkins all moved up one position for this match and performed well,” said Tyrone tennis coach Mike Hample. “Amy Lewis, nursing a hamstring, was competitive at the No. Four singles spot, before finally dropping her match. Emily Brokenshire, in only her second singles match, as a freshman, played well in a losing effort. The doubles teams played very well and actually sealed the match for Tyrone.”
Tyrone will travel to Hollidaysburg this afternoon for a 3:30 P.M. match.
