John Robert Smith, 69, of 1300 Washington Avenue, Tyrone died April 1, 2008 at home following an extended illness.
He was born January 21, 1939 in Huntingdon County, a son of Mary (Breon) Smith and Raymond Smith.
On December 31, 2007 in Tyrone he married Helen L. Gorna who survives.
Also surviving are seven sisters: Frances Thomas of Warriors Mark; Martha Hardsock of Chambersburg; Mildred Smith of Portage; Doris Yearick of Bellefonte; Ruth Koser of Shippensburg; Linda Rotertson of Burns, Wyoming and Mary Jane Gibson of Ash Camp, Kentucky.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Raymond, Jr.
He retied from the Pennsylvania State University Maintenance Department following 18 years of service.
He enjoyed hunting and camping and was a longtime member of the Cartwright Hunting Club. He enjoyed helping family and friends.
Funeral services will be held April 4, 2008 at 1:30 p.m. at Cox Funeral Home, Warriors Mark with Rev. Peggy Bonsell officiating.
Burial will be at Seven Stars Cemetery, Franklin Township.
Friends will be received on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Friday from 12:30 p.m. until the time of services at 1:30 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made in his name to a favorite charity.
