The Tyrone Community Players are anticipating the next big production, as auditions have been announced for Lionel Bart’s “Oliver”.
The classic story of a young boy searching for his family and place in this world, adapted from the novel Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens, will be performed by the Tyrone Community Players on June 20 and 21 in the auditorium of the Tyrone Area High School.
Under the direction of Cindy Bennett, with music direction by Karen Mayhew, “Oliver” has a large cast comprised of adults and children of all ages. It’s a warm-hearted tale which includes such memorable musical treats as “Food, Glorious Food”, “Where Is Love” and “Consider Yourself”.
Auditions for “Oliver” are scheduled for Sunday and Monday, April 6 and 7 at “the Building”, home of TCP, located at 1019 Logan Ave., Tyrone, starting at 7 p.m.
According to TCP, “‘Oliver’ is sure to be a smash hit with a huge audience appeal. Join the TCP on the dark and often seedy streets of London in the late 1800s as we present a classic of live theater.”
The principle cast for the TCP’s presentation of “Oliver” includes: Oliver Twist: A workhouse boy between the ages of 10 and 14; Mr. Bumble: A pompous man of middle age; Widow Corney: A sharp-tongued widow – the workhouse mistress; Noah Claypole: The undertaker’s assistant; Mr. Sowerberry: The undertaker; Mrs. Sowerberry: His overseer; Charlotte: The Sowerberry’s young daughter; The Artful Dodger: Fagin’s brightest pupil – a teenage boy; Fagin: A middle aged man running an academy for young pickpockets; Nancy: A graduate of Fagin’s academy (young 20-30); Charles Bates: A boy in Fagin’s establishment; Bet: A young teenage girl in Fagin’s establishment; Old Sally: A pauper; Bill Sykes: A villain in his prime; Mrs. Bedwin: The Brownlow’s housekeeper and Mr. Brownlow: An old gentleman of wealth and breeding.
There is also a need for an indeterminate cast of orphans both male and female, numerous secondary speaking roles and a large chorus of orphans, workhouse assistants, Bow Street runners, street vendors and townspeople.
