The Tyrone Boys and girls cross country teams participated in a triangular run featuring Indian Valley, Mount Union and Tyrone at Indian Valley on Tuesday. Tyrone and Indian Valley had already met this season so the Indian Valley runners did not count against the Tyrone teams.
The Tyrone girls team defeated Bald Eagle Area 15-50 and Mount Union 15-50.
On the girls side, Rebecca Mogle was the Lady Eagles top racer finishing fourth with a time of 25:18 behind three Indian Valley girls. Emily Ingle (26:11) and Angel Diehl (26:33) were right behind in fifth and sixth respectively. Erin Langenbacher was 10th and Adeena Harbst 15th.
Mount Union’s top finisher was McCartney, who came in 11th. Bald Eagle Area had no girls finish better than 18th.
“I was very pleased with our girls today,” said Tyrone cross country coach Tammy Snyder. “They all had good performances. Rebecca, Angel, and Emily and Adeena are getting better and better. Erin is doing very well also, finally recovering from injury.”
The Tyrone boys defeated Bald Eagle Area 15-50, while dropping a match to Mount Union 20-37.
Jim Gehret (19:37) was the first Tyrone runner across the finish line for the boys with a fourth place finish, behind Preston Bittinger of BEA who finished first with a time of 18:50 and a pair of Indian Valley runners.
Eric Sweet finished 19th overall followed by Nick Barndt (20th), Dane McCloskey (22nd) and Brian Pearson (31st) for the Tyrone boys.
Mount Union bunched five in the middle of the race claiming 11th, 12th, 13th, 17th and 18th, with Stephen Soult’s time of 21:56 the Trojans best for the day.
“Our boys ran a very close race today,” said coach Snyder. “We were missing two key runners and that hurt us, but the guys all ran strong. Jim Gehret ran a fantastic race, the best so far this season. Dane, Nick and Eric also looked really good today. They are all running stronger each time they race.”
The cross country squads’ next competition is next Tuesday, Oct. 1, at Bellefonte. Starting time is set for 4 p.m.
