What’s in a name?
That’s the question that will be asked as the Tyrone Area Historical Society celebrates Tyrone Heritage Week on March 15 and 16.
While normally closed for winter, the museum will open from 1 to 4 p.m. on March 15 and 16.
Special programs and exhibits are planned for the weekend, with a theme of “What’s in a name?”
Everyone is invited to stop by the museum to learn about the origin and meaning of their surname.
Paula Zitzler, Research Specialist at America’s Stories Inc. will be on hand at the museum to help visitors explore the story behind their names. She will be able to access special computer data for each visitor who wishes to participate.
Also, representatives from the Blair County Genealogical Society will present an exhibit and answer questions about genealogies. Anyone who has started construction of a family tree won’t want to miss this opportunity.
Finally, on Sunday afternoon, Tyrone native Jeffrey Adams, author of the book, Tyrone (in the Images of America series), will be present to sign books.
The book, published by Arcadia Publishing, features more than 200 images of vintage postcards and photographs of Tyrone and the surrounding areas.
Adams will offer books for sale, which he will happily sign.
Following Tyrone Heritage Weekend, the Tyrone History Museum will resume regular hours (Sunday and Wednesday from 1 to 4 p.m.) beginning Sunday, April 6.
