Tyrone Hospital will offer a free osteoporosis screening on Saturday, October 6 at the Tyrone Rotary Club’s Farm City Day. The screening will be provided from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on a first come, first served basis.‑
The screening will be performed by Ms. Rebecca McCully, Director of Radiology at Tyrone Hospital. The screening is appropriate for women and men age 18 or older. ‑
McCully said those who have the screening will be asked to have a seat and then will need to place one bare foot onto a machine. The machine uses ultrasound technology to provide basic information regarding bone density.‑The screening is non-invasive, painless, and takes just a few minutes to complete. Participants will receive their results right after the screening is completed.
McCully said the purpose of the screening is to provide the most basic information about a person’s bone health.
“If we see screening results that vary from what is generally considered normal, we advise that person to consult with their family physician for an evaluation. The screening is not intended to replace physician care.”
Individuals are also invited to visit Tyrone Hospital’s booth to pick up information on the hospital’s affiliated medical staff and services.
