The Sixth Annual \”Blair County Golden Games\” will run from May 26 through June 13.
Come and participate in events that include bocce, bowling, golf, horseshoes, swimming, track and field, intellectual games and more!
The Games are open to anyone age 50 and over and are designed to be fun and competitive, as well as to produce a sense of physical, mental and social well-being for participants. Spectators are welcome at all events.
Registration forms are available at all nine Senior Community Centers, at Tyrone Colonial Courtyard, and at area recreational facilities. A modest registration fee qualifies you to participate in events of your choosing, and to receive a Golden Games T-shirt and an invitation to the Opening Reception and Closing Ceremony. If you register by May 4, the fee is $8. From May 5 through May 18 the fee is $10. No registrations will be accepted after May 18.
The Opening Reception will be held at the Blair Senior Service Center, 1320 12th Avenue, Altoona, on Tuesday, May 29. Registered athletes are permitted to bring one guest to the Opening Reception at no cost. Stop by anytime between the hours of 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. to pick up your Athlete Welcome Packet, socialize with the other athletes, and enjoy light refreshments while watching a slide presentation of last year’s Golden Games. At 6 p.m., there will be a brief ceremony that will include welcoming remarks and the Athlete Oath.
The Closing Ceremony will be held at the Bavarian Hall, 112 South 13th Street in Altoona, on Tuesday, June 19. The doors will open at 5:30 p.m., with opening remarks at 6 p.m. Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. All registered participants are invited to attend the Closing Ceremony at no charge, and may bring one guest at a cost of $5. All medalists will be presented their awards at the Closing Ceremony.
