On a beautiful spring afternoon at the Tyrone oval, on Tuesday, the girls and boys track and field teams flexed their muscles over West Branch.
The Golden Eagles out-pointed West Branch 108 to 42, while the Lady Eagles again performed well winning 99–51.
Tyrone girls won 13 of the 18 events and scored huge numbers in the field events outscoring the Lady Warriors 50 to 13. Sarah Cox (Shot, Discus, Javelin) won all three throws, Liz Tepsic (100 LH, 300 IH, Long and Triple Jump), dominated her events again, Lizzie Shields (400, 800, 3200 Relay) won the middle distance races, Rachel Emigh (100, Pole Vault) was a double winner, and Brittany Hosband (High Jump) was a first time winner.
“The girls have performed well all season,” Coach Yaniello said. “It’s great to see them win and many of the girls continue to set personal records every meet. They really work hard in practice to get better and it is paying off.”
In the boys meet the Golden Eagles won 14 of the 18 events and placed second in 9 events. Excluding the relays that Tyrone swept, the Golden Eagle boy’s team had nine different athletes win at least one event. Ross Black (110 HH, 300 IH), Ben Ingle (1600, 3200), Ethan Nulton (400, 3200 Relay) were double winners and Dustin Elder, Phil Kreckel, Shane Emigh, Larry Glace, Josh Bradley, and Matt Murray won their event.
“We have some first year athletes who are doing an amazing job with little or no experience,” Yaniello said. “Cory Barnhart (Throws), Shane Emigh (Jumps), Robbie Hopkins (Pole Vault), Levi Reihart (Jumps), G. Romo (jumps), Shawn Alec (jumps), Bo Latchford (Field), along with our second year sophomores are coming along nicely.”
Next up for the Tyrone thinclads is an away meet with Philipsburg-Osceola on Thursday at 4:00 pm.
