The new year has finally arrived and with it comes 2007 resolutions.
A tradition many people take part in, making new year’s resolutions is commonplace, it’s keeping them that’s the tough part.
While resolutions vary, popular choices are resolving to get fit, eat right and exercise more.
Luckily area residents have a great tool to help get fit here in Northern Blair County.
The Northern Blair County Recreation Center in Antis Township opened in early 2005 and this past year, phase II of the project began. According to Don Kobak, the project is just weeks away from completion. Once complete the center will be able to provide area residents with a wide variety of fitness activities to help keep those new year’s resolutions on track.
The current facility offers cardiovascular and strength training equipment such as treadmills, bikes, elliptical machines, free weights and more. Personal training services and massage therapy are also offered.
New additions will include a gymnasium featuring a full indoor basketball court and two fitness rooms.
This summer, workers seeded the areas that will serve as future soccer and baseball fields.
Once the addition is complete, the center will be able to provide many more options for area residents. With two new fitness rooms, members will be able to enjoy various fitness classes. Employees predict the group classes may include aerobics, yoga and martial arts. Once the final plans are made, an open house will be held for individuals to check out the classes.
There has also been talk of elementary basketball leagues starting up once the gymnasium portion is completed, hopefully sometime later this month or in early February. Other possibilities include indoor soccer clinics and in the future, volleyball leagues.
Anyone interested is invited to stop by the Rec Center to check out the facility. Everyone is entitled to a free visit and workout. There is no commitment to stop by and try out the facility, so why not drop in and see what the Northern Blair County Rec Center is all about.
Those who like what they see can then ask about becoming a member.
The Rec Center is open Monday through Thursday from 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday from 5:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.
