With the future of Tyrone Hospital uncertain, a group of hospital corporate members have scheduled a meeting for Thursday, January 4 at 7 p.m. in the Tyrone Area Elementary School LGI Room.
The hospital board of directors will be present and the general public is strongly encouraged to attend the meeting.
This meeting was scheduled by a concerned group of hospital corporate members that feel the hospital board of directors and CEO are not doing enough to secure a bright future for Tyrone Hospital. They also feel there are many unanswered questions as to why the hospital was listed as one of the top hospitals just a few years ago and the hospital has now filed for bankruptcy in 2006.
This may not be a meeting where a definite decision will be made concerning the future of Tyrone Hospital. However, options to secure the future of Tyrone Hospital will be discussed with the corporate members and the general public. There will be a question and answer period where all members of the general public can ask any questions they have for the board of directors and state their concerns about the future of Tyrone Hospital.
Bill Kirkpatrick of Tyrone, who has worked with the group of concerned corporate members, said they are concerned that if the hospital board votes to sell to another corporation, such as Altoona Regional Health System or University Orthopedics, corporate members will lose control of the local hospital unless the deal is structured in such a way that the local group of hospital corporate members retain control.
Kirkpatrick added this group is concerned that if the hospital board of directors vote to sell to one of these corporations, the new owners could do whatever they wanted with the hospital.
When contacted by The Daily Herald concerning this meeting, the administration of Tyrone Hospital had no comment at this time.
