The Bellwood-Antis girls volleyball team dropped their first game against Mount Union on Thursday at Bellwood, then regrouped to win three tough games in a row to defeat the Lady Trojans 3-1 to improve to 11-2.
“Teamwork was defined tonight by the Lady Blue Devil\’s as they pulled together to defeat the Lady Trojans from Mt. Union,” explained Bellwood-Antis volleyball coach Allison Clabaugh. “Kristyn Ginter, Andrea Gardner and Chelsea Young played solid games the entire way around.”
The Lady Blue Devils lost the opening game 21-25, then won three straight close contests 25-21, 25-22 and 26-24.
“Rachel Albright, a typical rightside hitter, filled big shoes tonight,” said Clabaugh. “Working as a setter she put up 35 assists. We were down 18-24 in the fourth game when Albright stepped up and served eight in a row, helping lead the team to a well deserved victory over Mount Union.”
Jannell Wilt led the Lady Blue Devils with 26 digs, Chelsea Wilson had 24 digs and Alyson Sharer added 21 digs and a team-best 19 service points, including one ace. The rest of the B-A girls added 35 more digs. Wilson added 15 kills and eight “enormous “ blocks, as described by coach Clabaugh. Wilson and Wilt combined for 12 service points, including six aces between them. Albright had 14 service points and Andrea Gardner added four service points with one ace.
The Bellwood-Antis junior varsity won the middle game of three to fall to the Mount Union junior varsity two games to one, falling in the first game 24-26 and third game 8-15, sandwiched around a 25-17 victory in the second game.
Emily Sinisi had 10 service points and Megan Hinterberger added eight service points for the Bellwood-Antis JayVees.
