The Tyrone junior varsity welcomed the Philipsburg-Osceola to Gray Veterans Memorial Field on Monday evening with the usual strong determined defensive effort.
What accompanied the Golden Eagles junior varsity fourth straight shutout however, was a breakout performance for the Orange and Black’s offense with Tyrone blasting P-O 42-0, doing all the scoring in the first half.
Tyrone blistered the Philipsburg-Osceola junior varsity with four first-quarter touchdowns to put the Little Mounties away early. The Eagles, who have outscored their foes 88-0 in their four-game win streak after dropping their opener 6-3 to Bellwood-Antis, featured Jeremy Barlett, who crossed the goal line three times in the opening quarter and rushed for a game-best 198 yards, and Jesse Walk who added a pair of scores.
“We played extremely well tonight on both sides of the ball,” reported Tyrone junior varsity coach Darren Elvey. “Give Philipsburg-Osceola credit, their kids played hard and never quit. We just were hitting on all cylinders tonight offensively. At halftime, we agreed to play the second half out for the kids’ sake with the clock change.”
With Tyrone winning 42-0 at the halftime intermission, both coaches agreed to have a continuous running clock with six minute quarters in the second half, due to the score and the fact that Philipsburg-Osceola had several injured players.
The Golden Eagles Barlett opened the scoring with a six-yard run early in the game. Dustin Rudasill kicked the first of six perfect placements for a quick 7-0 lead.
Walk plunged four yards for the second score, before Barlett scooted 25 yards to paydirt for his second touchdown of the quarter. Barlett added a nine-yard TD run to stretch the Eagle JayVees advantage to 28-0 at the end of one stanza.
In the second quarter, Ben Ingle tossed a touchdown pass to Brady Williams for 23 yards and the Eagles’ fifth score.
Walk completed the scoring later in the second quarter with a seven-yard touchdown.
“Once again, our defense was phenomenal!” said Elvey. “We finally had that break-out offensive game I have been looking for. All the credit goes to the “O” line, they opened up some gaping holes and our backs ran really hard and made some nice cuts for good yardage. We are on a roll now and I hope we continue to play this way. I’ll tell you what, I think the future of our program looks bright.”
The Tyrone junior varsity (4-1) will host the Bellefonte junior varsity on Monday, Oct. 9, at 6 p.m.
