The Tyrone Hospital Art Gallery is now featuring the work of Catherine Nagle of Altoona. Nagle’s exhibit will be on display until November 12.
Nagle’s exhibit consists of acrylics, though she does at times use oils paint.
Style-wise she tends toward a realistic approach though she views her work as somewhat impressionistic as well. The topics of her paintings include portraits, landscapes, flowers and animals.
Nagle received formal training as a commercial artist at the Greater Career and Technology Center in Altoona. However, for the most part she considers herself to be self-taught.
She has painted since childhood. She has painted professionally for many years accepting commissions for family portraits and landscapes. She is currently accepting commissions for individual, family and pet portraitures.
Artwork created by Nagle is on display in private residences in the United States and Europe by those who enjoy collecting her pieces.
Nagle said all creatures and people are unique.
“There is so much wonder in creation. When I’m painting it causes me to slow down and take a good second look at everything around me. It is for this reason that I am so thankful for the paintbrush and canvas.”
The artwork created by Nagle also benefits others. She donates a percentage of the sales from her paintings of pets and animals to charities that can make a difference in the lives of homeless and abandoned pets and wildlife.
“As a professional artist and part time teacher of the arts, I believe it is important to encourage an appreciation of the arts. It is generous of Tyrone Hospital to give the time and space to local artists to given them an opportunity to share their work.”
