The Martinsburg’s August Edition of the (31st Annual) Pennsylvania State Singing Convention is scheduled to get started on Thursday, Aug. 10 and run through Sunday, Aug.13.
The event at the Morrisons Cove Memorial Park is being sponsored by “The Vicksburg Quartet” and will feature 150 gospel groups/soloists and duets including talent from Tyrone. The event will be held rain or shine.
The schedule is as follows:
• Thursday, Aug. 10: 6 p.m. until midnight- Gospel Singing;
• Friday, Aug. 11: 1 p.m. until midnight- Gospel Singing. Among the gospel performers both days will be Bill and Judy Jones of Tyrone;
• Saturday, Aug. 12: 10 a.m. until 11 a.m.- a children\’s program followed by gospel singing from 12:30 p.m. until 1 a.m. The PSGMA Awards will be held at 5:30 p.m. The Original “Couriers” of Dillsburg will perform at 6 p.m.
Performers on Saturday, Aug. 12 include David Kaup and Bill and Donna Glunt, all from Tyrone;
• Sunday, Aug. 13: 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.- Worship Service with The “Couriers” (Dwayne, Dave and Neil). Gospel singing is scheduled from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m.
There will be concession stands on the grounds. Visitors are advised to bring lawn chairs Campers are welcome at a rate of $13 per site/per night. For handicapped campers needing electricity, the cost is $16.
Admission to the park is free and there is no admission charge for concerts plus parking is free. There will be a live radio broadcast on WJSM, Martinsburg. The event is billed as the “largest gospel sing on the east coast.”
Martinsburg is located on Route 164 and Morrisons Cove Memorial Park is in the center of town.
