The Tyrone girls softball team played their game against Huntingdon as if the ball was a hot potato and none of the Lady Eagles wanted to take a chance on getting their hands burned. Heidi Householder and Laci Yingling each slammed three base hits for the Huntingdon girls who improved their record to 3-7.
Eight Tyrone errors contributed to most of the Lady Bearcats scoring in one way or another.
Each team scored in clusters of runs, but after the Lady Eagles scored five times in the third inning to take a 5-4 lead, Huntingdon which had scored four times in the second, came back with five tallies of the own in the fourth inning and three more in the fifth, on their way to a 13-5 triumph.
Brittany McNeal survived the Tyrone outburst in the third inning to pitch the complete game victory, shutting out the Tyrone girls over the final four innings, striking out four and walking six.
Kim Cherry had two singles and one RBI for Tyrone, Megan Turiano had two RBI, and Ashley Ripka and Ashley Pennabaker each drove in one run.
Laura Thompson pitched the first five innings for the Lady Eagles, striking out one and walking two to take the loss. Stefani Bryan pitched the sixth for Tyrone with one walk and no strikeouts.
“One word sums up this game – ERRORS,” explained Tyrone coach Lois Loncher. “We had only four who played well (Megan Turiano, Stefani Bryan, Kim Cherry and Casie Glashauser).”
The Lady Eagles (3-5) travel to defending state champ Bald Eagle Area on Thursday for a rematch. In the first contest, BEA spoiled the Lady Eagles’ home opener with a 7-0 win.
