The Tyrone girls volleyball squads journeyed to Philipsburg on Thursday evening to complete the first cycle of MAC play.
The Lady Eagles varsity (5-2 in the MAC, 11-5 overall) dropped three straight games to Philipsburg-Osceola, 25-20, 25-18 and 25-20, always staying close, but never quite able to pull off a string of points for wins.
Kim Cherry totaled 11 assists for the Lady Eagles, Marissa Hoover added five kills, Ashley Roth had five blocks. Katie Schreckengost led the way with nine service points and Emily Lloyd had seven service points.
“I was really proud of the group,” said Tyrone coach Dave Eckberg. “They have been playing very good volleyball this week. Philipsburg is a tough opponent. We played them basically point-for-point. In each game however, they were able to get a run of four or five points which we weren’t able to overcome. We played especially well at the net, Ashley Roth in particular. Emily Lloyd is the best passer we have had in the program.
I am proud of what we have done in the first cycle, now we have to get ready for the second cycle, starting next week.”
