The Bellwood-Antis cross country teams hosted West Branch and Philipsburg-Osceola on the course at Bellwood on Tuesday afternoon. Although the Blue Devils had the top runner in both races, the boys needed a tiebreaker to make sure they defeated both opponents and the girls dropped both races.
Josh Ervine won the boys race in 18:45, by three seconds over the second-place runner, Brock Kerfoot of Philipsburg-Osceola, and was followed across the finish line by teammates Jamey Rimmey in fourth place overall (18:58), Brandon Beech was eighth (19:24), Eli Colyer was ninth (19:29) and Ron Wilson rounded out the top 10, in 19:46.
In the boys race, Bellwood-Antis (5-3) defeated West Branch 19-39, but was tied with Philipsburg-Osceola 28-28. That race was decided by the tiebreaker, which is the better time for the involved schools’ sixth-place runner. In this case, the Blue Devils’ Liam Flynn was the hero of the day, finishing five seconds ahead of the Mounties’ sixth man, Aaron Danko.
In the girls race, Sarah Bell was first across the the finish line for the Blue Devils in 22:18 and West Branch’s Chandra Murray was second (23:15), nearly a full minute back. B-A teammates Becca Colyer was ninth in 24:44, and Kelly Killinger was 10th in 25:05.
Philipsburg-Osceola won both their races, defeating Bellwood-Antis 24-31 and West Branch 25-30. West Branch slipped by the Lady Blue Devils 27-28.
