A hearing for a 42-year-old rural Tyrone man charged with vehicular homicide while driving under the influence has been scheduled for September 6 at 11 a.m. but will most likely be continued until another time that day or another day.
Dennis Jay Miller appeared before Magisterial District Judge Fred Miller this morning regarding a weekend incident that left 44-year old Anna Theresa Walk dead.
State police said the woman was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Miller early Saturday morning. Police said Miller was allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol along Decker Hollow Road. Miller and Walk were involved in an argument and Miller abruptly stopped the vehicle broadside in the middle of the road. Walk got out of the vehicle and began to walk away.
Miller put the vehicle in reverse and drove the car backward and swerved toward Walk. She was hit by the vehicle and run over by it.
Miller was originally arrested on charges of homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence, reckless driving, recklessly endangering another person, DUI and other related offenses. He was lodged in the Blair County Prison without bail.
Today, the charges were withdrawn and refiled, adding criminal homicide and aggravated assault while driving under the influence. Bail was again denied.
A funeral service for Walk is scheduled for Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Richard H. Searer Funeral Home. Visitation is scheduled for today from 2 to 4 and again from 7 to 9 p.m.
