The Tyrone Area Youth Baseball Association 8 and Under All-Stars began a round robin tournament on Wednesday, July 6, 2005 with a pair of games. In both games, the local All-Stars were roughed up by valley all-star congregations.
In the opener which began at 5:50 p.m., Juniata Valley scored five times in the first two innings and then the tournament maximum five runs in each of the last four innings to post a 25-12 triumph. Then in the nightcap, which followed at 6:30 p.m., Big Valley handled the Tyrone contingent 23-11.
In the opener, Tyrone rallied from a 5-1 deficit to put up five markers in the bottom of the second to take a short-lived 6-5 advantage. The 8 and Under TYBA All-Stars couldn’t keep up that pace however while Juniata Valley was pounding the ball all around the field to finish with 25 runs and 36 hits.
The Tyrone All-Stars were not exactly idle, collecting 27 hits during the first game, with Bryant Taylor and Zack Soellner leading the way with four hits each. Caleb Hammond, Tristan Walters and Zane Hertzler each had three hits, and Walters scored three times.
Taylor singled to begin the bottom of the first and scored when Soellner drove him home with a single.
In the big second inning, Walters doubled and Hertzler singled. Nate Thompson singled to plate Walters and then Rick Reeder scored Hertzler with a base hit. Reeder scored on an RBI groundout by Titus Irvin. After JoJo Steinbugl singled, another base hit by Bryant got Steinbugl home and Taylor then scored the final run of the frame on a single by Tristen Lingafelt.
An inning later, Walters singled and came around to score on a single by Thompson.
Finally with Juniata Valley leading 20-7, Tyrone came back to get closer with a five-run fifth inning.
Blake Brooks, Walters and Hertzler banged three straight singles loaded the bases. Then Reeder blasted a double to score to score Brooks and Walters. Irvin got Hertzler home with an RBI grounder. Steinbugl singled to score Reeder and finally, Lingafelt drove in the fifth run of the inning with a single that plated Steinbugl.

In the second contest against Big Valley, Tyrone jumped out to a 3-0 lead in their first at bat, but the powerful Big Valley club then scored the maximum of five runs in each of the first four innings and added three more in the fifth stanza to win going away.
Zack Soellner pounded out four more hits in as many plate appearances, and Tristen Lingafelt, Caleb Hammond and Blake Brooks each added three base hits.
In the first, Bryant Taylor, Tristen Lingafelt and Zack Soellner all singled. Caleb Hammond’s base hit scored Taylor and Lingafelt and Brooks singled to get Soellner home.
Tyrone scored four times in the top of the third and four more in the fifth..
Taylor singled to begin the third and came home on a double by Lingafelt. A single by Hammond scored Lingafelt, before a groundout by Zane Hertzler scored Hammond.
In the fifth frame, singles by Lingafelt, Soellner and Hammond loaded the bases. Brooks ripped a double to plate Lingafelt and Soellner. Brooks then scored on a single by Tristen Walters. The final tally of the contest came when Hertzler sent Hammond home with the fourth run of the inning.
